The Conferment of the Honorary Doctoral Degree Upon His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion and the Signing of the MOU between ACTS the Catholic University of America

On Saturday November 5, 2022 His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion, the Bishop of Los Angeles and Metropolitan of Southern California and Hawaii and the President of the St. Cyril and St. Athanasius Theological School, was presented with the degree of Doctor of Human Letters by the Catholic University of America. 

The honorary Doctoral degree upon His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion was conferred by the President of the university, Dr. Peter Kilpatrick, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. His Eminence delivered a remarkable speech about “The Unity of The Church And The Christological Controversy”. 

After the receiving of the doctoral His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the St. Cyril and St. Athanasius Theological School and the Catholic University of America. His Eminence celebrated the Divine Liturgy along with their graces Bishop Suriel, Bishop Peter, Bishop Abraham, Bishop Kyrillos, Bishop Seraphim, and Bishop Gregory, and 40 hegomens and priests from the Diocese of Los Angeles and across North America. 

In addition, a chorus of twenty six deacons and over 200 members of the faithful flew from Los Angeles and across North America to participate in this historic event. 

It was an exceedingly joyful day that marks the beginning of a new chapter in our Diocese’s history.
