Archdeacon Severus Mikhail

Deacon Severus Mikhail was born in Cairo, Egypt.

He received his formal education in Southern Californian schools, including a Masters in History and a Ph.D. in the History of the Near and Middle East at the University of California, Los Angeles. His dissertation was Egypt from Late Antiquity to Early Islam: Copts, Melkites, and Muslims Shaping a New Society, which won Honorable Mention for the Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Award conferred by the Middle East Studies Association.

On the 2nd week of Pentecost, Bashnas 8, 1740, Thursday May 16, 2024, during the monthly clergy meeting His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion accompanied by His Grace Bishop Abraham, and His Grace Bishop Kyrillos laid hands on and elevated Deacon Severus Mikhail, as Archdeacon Severus Mikhail for the Christ loving Diocese of Los Angeles to serve at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Los Angeles, California.
