The Great Lent
Volume II of the Treasures of the Fathers of the Church series, which offers readers a rich treasure of patristic writings from St. Athanasius, St. Cyril of Alexandria, St. John Chrysostom, St. Gregory Nazianzen, the Scholar Origen, and many others. Also included in this volume is a series of three articles containing an introduction to the spirituality of the Great Lent, a liturgical history of its customs and rites, and a general overview of its Sunday gospel readings.
The Treasures of the Fathers Series
Our paramount objective in this series is to introduce the believers to the trialogue of faith—the harmony among the Holy Scriptures, the Church Fathers, and the rites of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Throughout this symphony of discourse, the believer is not only enlightened by the Holy Scriptures, but is further illumined through the homilies, exegeses, and commentaries of the Church Fathers. This is a brief and simple companion to the Coptic Orthodox lectionary. We hope and pray that through this series, the Holy Scriptures, the Church Fathers, and the Church rites are experienced by the believer as a deep source of blessing, wisdom, and faith.
