The Blessed Month of Kiahk

The Coptic Orthodox Church honors the Holy Theotokos Saint Mary many times throughout the year. The Coptic month of Kiahk is one such time in which the Church venerates Saint Mary in the context of commemorating our Lord Jesus Christ’s incarnation and glorious birth.

This time of year is precious, because it focuses believers on the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ. This month reminds us why the Lord chose Saint Mary to be His mother. Saint Mary’s way of life, purity of heart, and humility allowed her to become the mother of our Savior. She has many titles, which have been summarized in this article.

To help us focus our spiritual lives on the themes of this blessed Coptic month, we suggest the following resource

H.G. Bishop Serapion spoke about Kiahk and the Life of Sacrifice: Listen here

Father Shenouda Anba Bishoy wrote an article on the blessings of Christmas.

The late Fr. Pishoy Kamel wrote an article on the praises of Kiahk, explaining certain parts of the midnight praise.

Treasures of the Fathers offer a commentary on the readings of the Fourth of Kiahk, which can be reached from here.

Many wonder about the rites of Coptic hymns during Kiahk; here is an article explaining that.

May the blessings of this blessed Coptic month be with us all.

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.”
Luke 1:46 – 48
