Saint Mary and Saint Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church was established in 1986 to serve Copts in the San Fernando Valley. The church was located in Panorama City from 1987 to 1995, when a large 5-acre parcel of land was purchased and a hall was built in 1999. The hall is currently being used as a church until the new church building is completed.

Several priests have served this parish, including Hegumen Father Angelos Doss, Hegumen Father Antonious Younan, Hegumen Father Bishoy Bastawros, Father Antony Atalla, and Father David Elias. Archdeacon Zakaria Hanna also serves in this parish.

Recently, the church built a 58-unit complex for senior citizens and a preschool that accommodates 48 children.
